Goat Farming Can Drive Prosperity for Odisha’s Farmers: Minister

BHUBANESWAR: “Goat farming is a life line for thousands of small farmers in Odisha. The Odisha government is determined to strengthen this sector by expanding veterinarian support, encouraging farmers’ cooperatives and creating better market connections. Niranjan Panda emphasized the importance of community feed banks, climate -resistant shelters and local appropriate reproductive programs to develop dean research, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology University (OUAT), flexibility and farmer revenues.

The event also exhibited inspiring flexibility stories. Chanchala Mahanta, a widow from Mayurbhanj, shared how the goat farming supports his house, provides treatment to his sick son and saves him for emergencies. Similarly, Latamani Mahanta from Keonjhar, who started the goat farming with only a few animals in 2015, explained his journey to transform him into a sustainable livelihood while inspiring other women in his village.

He was accused of seventeen -stimulating farmers from Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj for their contributions. “Goat farming is not only about animal husbandry, but about flexibility, income opportunities and women’s strengthening,” the government said, while the government, researchers, financial institutions and base farmers are needed.

The event ended with a collective call to develop a flexible goat agricultural ecosystem in Odisha and enabled the small owner farmers to be equipped with skills, resources and access to the markets in a changing economy.
