MP/ BJP’s Spectacular WB Poll Victory Makes ‘Jhalmuri’, A Bengali Popular Snack, An Instant Hit In Hindi Heartland

-Bhopal: Jhalmuri, a popular Bengali snack, became an instant hit in the Hindi heartland, thanks to the BJP’s spectacular victory in the 2026 Assembly polls in West Bengal.

Kolkata’s iconic street food, which came to the limelight in the weeks-long high-voltage campaign by both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sudden desire to taste restaurant snacks during the election campaign, was served to the people of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as a sign of celebrating the party’s landslide victory in the World Bank polls.

While celebrating the landmark election victory, huge ‘Jhalmuri’ orders were issued by the party to be shared among party members in the block, district and state headquarters.

“We had made arrangements for sharing Jhalmuri in all party offices in the state, from panchayat to state headquarters, to celebrate the election victory in WB. Even Jhalmuri was distributed among party members instead of sweets to celebrate the victory in many parts of the state,” said Mahendra Dave, a BJP leader.

Prime Minister Mr Modi’s Jhalmuri campaign in the West Bengal elections proved to be a hit as outgoing chief minister Mamata Banerjee reacted strongly to Mr Modi’s unconventional campaign during the World Bank election campaign, which brought the unexpected food item to the center of controversy.

Senior BJP leaders and workers, including chief minister Mohan Yadav and state party president Hemant Khandelwal, were seen enjoying Jhalmuri to celebrate the victory in the World Bank polls.

In Bhopal, several state ministers were seen distributing Jhalmuri to party members and passersby.

In Chhattisgarh too, the BJP’s victory in the World Bank polls triggered Jhalmuri celebration by the party’s senior leaders and workers across the state.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai and a number of his ministerial colleagues and speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr. Raman Singh was seen enjoying the iconic Kolkata snack at the party’s state headquarters as a celebration of his World Bank poll victory.

Jhalmuri is made from puffed rice mixed with pungent raw mustard oil, roasted peanuts, spices, chopped onion, tomato and boiled potatoes.

It is known for its spicy and tangy flavor profile, usually served in a conical paper wrapper.

In Hindi belt, Jhalmuri snacks are called ‘Bhel’.
