NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — City officials are hosting a recruiting event for a major infrastructure project coming to the city.
The MTA moved forward with the long-planned expansion last year by approving a $1.9 billion contract to begin the second phase of the Second Avenue Subway. The next phase will extend the Q line from 96th Street to 125th Street and is expected to open to passengers by 2032.
The project will create new connections by connecting lines 4, 5 and 6 to Metro-North through a new station at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue, while also creating job opportunities for many area residents.
The hiring event will include information about the union’s apprenticeship programs and construction industry training.
The event will be held next Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at 219 East 109th Street, between Second and Third Avenues.
Minimum qualifications include being at least 18 years old, having a high school diploma, and being eligible to work in the United States
Participants can also explore civil service testing opportunities with the MTA, NYPD, FDNY and other city agencies.
Anyone interested in employment opportunities at the MTA and other participating organizations is encouraged to attend.
