Multiple Chicago police officers attacked in downtown violence that left several shot

Several police officers, including one injured, were attacked while responding to a shooting in Chicago on Friday that left at least five victims shot.

The incident occurred near State and Randolph streets around 10 p.m., just a few hours after the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, Fox 32 reported.

Ald. Brian Hopkins of Chicago’s 2nd Ward said at least five people were shot, one of whom was in critical condition.

“300 kids rioting in the Loop right now, at least 5 victims shot, one with a critical, life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso,” he wrote to X.

“Several police officers were attacked and injured with mace and stun guns, and at least one PO was hospitalized,” he continued.

Police have not confirmed Hopkins’ account, including the number of victims.

The investigation of the incident continues.
