Mum who allegedly hid baby’s body in drain given state appointed guardian

A defenseless mother who allegedly hid her baby’s body in a stormwater drain appeared in court for the first time since the heartbreaking discovery.
The unidentified woman was accused of concealing the birth of the deceased child after workers made the tragic discovery while cleaning drains in Perth’s northeast on August 14.
Police claimed that the baby boy’s body remained in the sewer for a short time and was then found by two shopkeepers.
Information provided by authorities suggested that the boy was not killed violently at the time he was found, but the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death remained.
The woman was accompanied by her attorney, Karen Farley, and a guardian appointed by the State Board of Trustees.
Ms Farley told the court that her client was appointed a guardian after her baby was found and received care in hospital.

The defense attorney requested that the matter be postponed for a final deposition hearing to be held next year.
The court previously heard the woman was admitted to hospital and received care to support her mental health after contacting police.
The matter is expected to be heard in the Perth Magistrates Court on February 13.
