A mother who killed her four -month -old girl strongly shaking her for 15 years has been imprisoned. 28 -year -old Melissa Wilband was found guilty by Lexi Wilband’s manslaughter jury, which collapsed in their homes in New Entry, Gloucestershire in April 2020. During the hearing, Wilband refused to shake Lexi and said he had a “bad wrist ,, which means he could not shake it physically.

Bristol Crown Court heard how the Tests died after bleeding in Lexi’s brain, probably due to the fact that it was at least recently and at least once again in an early situation. Lexi died in Bristol Children’s Hospital, a nurse held his hand on April 18th six days after his collapse. Wilband’s former partner Jack Wheeler was acquitted of causing or allowing Lexi’s death.

Mr. Wheeler was also accused of Lexi’s killing, but prosecutors were officially withdrawn during this hearing after they did not offer any evidence against him.

Justice Saini, who passed the sentence, said that Wilband was pleased that Lexi shaken twice.

“Lexi was about four months when he died. He was a healthy baby,” he said. “It is important that we realize that this is about taking life.

“You killed Lexi by shaking him strongly at the family house in Newent.

“Lexi was killed by you when the country was in the first national Covid-19 locked.

Iz You were washing Lexi after dinner, and you shook Lexi and went to the floppy after that.

“I’m sure the evidence that Lexi was shaken by you in another, less violent incident before the Easter market.

“Only you will know why you behave as you do.

“It was difficult to imagine the pain that Lexi had to suffer both from past violence and the violence that led to the death. It would suffer.”

During the hearing, the jury members were told that Wilband and Mr. Wheeler had a relationship for nearly three years, but Lexi was designed with another man at the beginning of 2019.

However, Wilband said that from Ledbury in Herefordshire to Mr. Wheeler, the baby’s biological father, and that he had a false DNA certificate claiming that his child was his “father”.

After Lexi’s November 2019, a real DNA test confirmed that Mr. Wheeler was not biologically related to him, but he remained with Wilband and raised Lexi like his own child.

The jury members heard that Wilband, who has a variable relationship with Mr. Wheeler, took cocaine only six days after Lexi was born.

On April 12, 2020, he made 111 calls from the new construction council house where he lived with Wilband, Mr. Wheeler and Lexi. Lexi claimed that he had stopped breathing when he was in his bouncer chair.

Lexi was taken to the Gloucesterstershire Royal Hospital and was intubated, and asked if Wilband wanted to hold his baby before the procedure was realized. He refused to do this.

The baby was later transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital, where Wilband said that Mr. Wheeer carried Lexi in his bouncer chair and shook.

Following the results of the MRI screening, it was decided to close Lexi’s ventilator on 17 April.

The jury members were told that Wilband had spent three hours with Lexi before going to sleep in a different part of the hospital.

Jane Osborne KC said that she was aware that Wilband’s baby could die at night, but she didn’t stay at her.

“A staff nurse took Lexi’s hand during the night and stayed with it, Os said Osborne.

“On the morning of April 18, Lexi seemed to have longer pauses in his breath. Mrs. Wilband was told to join the ward.

“He came immediately after Lexi stopped showing signs of life and stopped breathing.”

Osborne, a post -death test, gave Lexi’s cause of death to the brain as a bleeding, and caused an out -of -accident traumatic event, such as “shaking it violently”.

More tests found that Lexi’s bleeding areas in his eyes were “too much to count ..

Wilband, who gave evidence, refused to shake Lexi and said that he had a “bad wrist ,, which means he could not shake him physically and tried to blame his wife.

Mr. Wheeler said Lexi collapsed and refused to carry him through the bouncer chair.
