Nicholas Brendon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor, dies at 54 | Television

Nicholas Brendon is the actor known for his role as Xander. Buffy the Vampire Slayerdied. He was 54 years old.

Brendon’s family released a statement on Friday saying he died “in his sleep from natural causes.”

“Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years, Nicky found his passion in painting and art. Nicky loved sharing his exuberant talent with his family, friends and fans,” his family said.

“He was passionate, sensitive, and had an endless passion for creating. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was.”

Brendon was a regular on Buffy, playing the vampire hunter’s friend and source of comic relief. “My sweet Nicky, thank you for the years of laughter, love and the Dodgers,” wrote Alyson Hannigan, who plays Xander’s best friend Willow Rosenberg in the series, which airs on the WB network in the US. “I’ll think of you every time I see a rocking chair. I love you. RIP”

Brendon has also appeared in a number of TV shows, including Criminal Minds, Private Practice and Kitchen Confidential, based on Anthony Bourdain’s best-selling memoir. Brendon has also appeared in many movies such as Demon Island and Psycho Beach Party.

Brendon was born in Los Angeles in 1971. He said acting helped him manage his stuttering, and he later became a spokesperson for the Stuttering Foundation of America.

Brendon said that he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect in 2023 and suffered a heart attack. He also had cauda equina syndrome (CES).

“Although it was no secret that Nicholas had difficulties in the past, he was receiving medication and treatment to correct his diagnosis and was optimistic about the future at the time of his death,” his family said.
