Two major earthquakes occurred in Venezuela, triggering a tsunami alert and forcing people to evacuate their homes.

Following the 7.1 magnitude earthquake, the 7.5 magnitude earthquake caused chaos in the capital Caracas on Wednesday afternoon, with multiple tremors felt.

Buildings collapsed and a major airport was damaged; one local person stated that he had “never felt anything this strong”.

While rescue teams are looking for the injured under the rubble, search efforts continue.

With the tsunami warning now in effect, people in threatened coastal areas are warned to remain alert and follow instructions from national authorities.

The first wave is expected around 22.30 local time.
