Musk claims he was unaware of Grok generating explicit images of minors | Technology

Elon Musk said on Wednesday that he was not aware of any “nude photos of minors” created by xAI’s Grok, as scrutiny of the artificial intelligence tool intensified around the world.

Musk reiterated that Grok is programmed to reject illegal requests and must comply with the laws of any country or state.
“Obviously Grok doesn’t create images on its own, it just does it based on user requests,” Musk said.
Musk has previously said that anyone who uses Grok on X to create illegal content will face the same consequences as if they had uploaded illegal content.
Last week, three Democratic US senators called on Apple and Alphabet’s Google to remove X and its built-in AI tool Grok from their app stores, citing the spread of non-consensual sexual images of women and minors on the platform.
A coalition of women’s groups, tech watchdogs and progressive activists have also called on tech giants to make a similar move.
Last week,
Laws in the UK that will criminalize the creation of such images are set to change this week, and prime minister Keir Starmer said on Wednesday X was working to comply with the new rules. Communications regulator Ofcom is investigating the AI tool.
Countries like Malaysia and Indonesia have already blocked access to Grok and taken legal action against X and Musk’s xAI, alleging failures to block harmful content and protect users.
