Family members of Gade Sai Krishna (26), who has been missing for the last month, alleged that NTR Commissionerate Krishnalanka police tortured and beat him to death in custody. They demanded the Andhra Pradesh government to initiate a judicial investigation into the matter and arrest those responsible.
“My son was picked up by the police and taken to Krishnalanka police station. He has not returned since then,” Sai Krishna’s mother Gade Vijaya Lakshmi told the media on Wednesday.
“The police, who accused my son (Sai Krishna) of being involved in some cases, beat him to death. When I went to Krishnalanka police station a few days ago, Circle Inspector Nagaraju told me that Sai Krishna was dead. He mistreated me,” said Ms. Vijaya Lakshmi.
Navarang, the victim’s maternal uncle, alleged that the police branded Sai Krishna as a criminal and beat him to death in custody.
“Is this friendly policing? If Sai Krishna is alive, the police should immediately produce him before the Supreme Court,” he said.
Sai Krishna’s mother filed a lawsuit Habeas Corpus Petition in the High Court directing the Krishna Lanka police to hand over the victim on June 15. Since they could not produce Sai Krishna, the Supreme Court directed the police to hand him over by June 29.

YSRCP leader Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) has demanded either a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry or a judicial inquiry headed by a sitting judge.
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji accused the police of not registering an FIR regarding Sai Krishna’s disappearance. “Police should preserve CCTV footage from Krishnalanka police station, Call Data Records (CDRs) of Sai Krishna, CI Nagaraju and other policemen involved in the incident,” he said.
