Mystery as 315 mounds of human remains found in desert | World | News

A pile of more than 300 human remains has been discovered in the desert just an hour outside of Las Vegas. The shocking discovery was made by a local man near the rural town of Searchlight on July 28. However, since each pile no longer contained any identifiable information, researchers were left with a possibly unsolvable mystery about who the remains belonged to.

According to 8 News Now, some of the piles were found to contain pottery remains as well as pieces of cable ties used by funeral homes to close ash bags. The remains, consisting of crushed bone fragments known as “creams”, are said to have been found scattered across a desolate landscape in the Nevada Desert.

They were confirmed to be of human origin by U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) officials in August. In a new update on Wednesday, Oct. 29, crews from Palm Morgues and Cemeteries removed approximately 315 piles of cremains from the site, KLAS reported.

Celena DiLullo, president of Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries, said the remains will be transferred to a cemetery crypt.

“I think it’s important for us to make sure these people aren’t forgotten and abandoned,” Ms. DiLullo told KLAS. “It is important for our society and our profession to show how much we care about these people.”

According to initial reports, the ashes may have been disposed of by a commercial funeral home. Under Nevada law, individuals are allowed to scatter ashes on public lands, and there is no general prohibition against scattering cremated remains. But BLM regulations prohibit the commercial distribution of cremated remains on federal land.

The desert area where the remains were found is on land managed by the BLM.

Various sources tell 8 News Now that the mass destruction was caused by a funeral procession that was recently shut down.

However, a representative of the unnamed business denied these claims, and details of the suspected funeral home have not yet been released by authorities.
