Nalgonda Topped State in Voter Numbers

Hyderabad: Nalgonda district stood at the top of the state in terms of voter turnout in absolute terms with 9.02 lakh out of 10.07 lakh voters who participated in the recently concluded gram panchayat elections. However, in terms of percentage, Yadadri Bhongir stands first with 92.33 percent voter turnout.
Karimnagar district stood out as the best performing district in terms of speedy completion of the election process.
State Election Commission secretary I. Rani Kumudini said that all three phases of gram panchayat elections were held peacefully and there was not a single recount, postponement of voting or delay in counting. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was abolished at 5pm on Thursday. Out of the total 1.58 crore registered voters, 1.35 crore exercised their right to vote in the Panchayat elections.
The secretary said two employees, Mulugu MEO Rajendra Prasad and Adilabad AE Kantaiah, died on duty due to health issues. He added that the Commission would bring the matter to the attention of the government to ensure that compensation is paid to the bereaved family members.
Rani Kumudini said, “Orders have been issued to prevent interference of MPDOs and other officials in the conduct of panchayat polls. District election officials and observers have been instructed to conduct the elections impartially. Before the declaration of results, mandatory declarations have been taken from the sole candidates and candidates who withdrew their candidatures.”
