Naomi Tekea Craig: Former Frederick Irwin teacher who gave birth to 13-year-old’s baby seen for first time
A Mandurah music teacher who had a baby with an underage student he sexually abused has been photographed for the first time since details of his crimes emerged.
Naomi Takea Craig, 34, was photographed leaving the Mandurah courthouse by West Australians on Friday afternoon, the same day her sentencing date was confirmed and several other charges against her were dismissed.
The former Frederick Irwin Anglican School educator has not had to appear in court once since she was arrested last year after giving birth to her 13-year-old victim’s child.
It was announced earlier on Friday that Craig will be sentenced in November after pleading guilty to 15 child sexual offenses in January.
But before her arrest, the mother of another child was due to visit Mandurah Magistrates’ Court in person on Friday to re-sign her bail.
Her appearance was a far cry from the woman who proudly posed in the glamorous shots while pregnant with her 13-year-old victim’s baby.
Craig had long hair dyed black, wore a tan hat pulled over his eyes, and dark sunglasses that were large enough to cover his face.
He was wearing dark sportswear and ran while waiting for the media to ask if he had anything to say to the victim’s family or the school community.
Craig was accompanied by an older man who pushed The West’s photographer into the back before getting into a white Mitsubishi Pajero.
Craig has yet to plead to seven more charges, and it was announced in district court on Friday that some of the charges would be dropped.
Those charges were not formally stayed, with recorder Lisel Avey suggesting they would be addressed when he is sentenced on November 17.
Criminal defense attorney Michael Tudori said discussions are ongoing with the State regarding the outstanding charges.
The court was also told that pre-sentence reports, including the psychiatric report requested at his final hearing, were in the final stages of development.
Craig pleaded guilty to more than a dozen counts of child abuse following a major police investigation into the ongoing sexual abuse of his male student between 2024 and 2025.
Originally charged with four crimes, Craig faced more charges after DNA testing revealed she had given birth to a baby with her victim’s father.
She was only 13 years old when she gave birth on January 8.
A school bulletin revealed that Craig, who last taught under the surname Woods, was on maternity leave in December when she was arrested.
Outside court Mr Tudori confirmed two charges against Craig had been stayed.
“Obviously, this behavior has gone over a period of time, we’re just fine-tuning what’s going on,” he said of the negotiations.
Craig’s bail was extended under the same conditions; this prevented Craig from having contact with any children other than her baby, including both her older child and the victim.
