Nasscom flags crushing effect of Trump admin’s new H-1B visa selection policy – Small, mid-sized companies to bear brunt

As the United States seeks to replace the long-standing H-1B visa lottery with a fee-based selection mechanism, the Indian IT industry body said such a decision would impact small and medium-sized companies working in the US, which depend on academic calendars, customer delivery schedules and product release cycles to hire their employees.
Nasscom’s announcement comes as the Donald Trump administration is changing the long-standing random lottery system that selects visa beneficiaries. A process will now be implemented in which employees with higher wages and better skills will be prioritized.
“A sudden shift to a fee-heavy model will create uncertainty, increase compliance complexity and disrupt well-established workforce planning, especially for small and medium-sized firms that align hiring with academic calendars, customer delivery schedules and product release cycles,” Nasscom said in a statement.
