Nate McMurray launches run for 145th Assembly District

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) — A familiar face in local politics is running for office once again.

Democrat Nate McMurray officially launched his campaign for the 145th New York State Assembly District on Saturday.

The region covers the Big Island along with most of Western Niagara County.
McMurray is the former Grand Island town supervisor and has run for congress three times. He says his campaign is to help Niagara Falls reach its potential.

“Enough is enough,” McMurray told WIVB News 4. “We have to find a way to make Niagara Falls and Niagara County the centerpiece of the region, and it’s been neglected for too long. There’s so much money being created here and leaving here.”

McMurray is no stranger to running for office.

Democrat announced his decision first challenge to former Congressman Chris Collins in January 2018, with the aim of capturing New York’s then-27th congressional district seat.

McMurray then ran unsuccessfully against Republican Chris Jacobs in a special election to fill Collins’ congressional seat left open due to the insider trading case. Final resignation in 2019. Jacobs claimed victory the following year.

McMurray later ran a brief campaign for Erie County Executive, but Departed in February 2023. In 2024, he launched a challenge against then-State Senator Tim Kennedy for the 26th Congressional District.

Angelo Morinello, Republican representing 145This The New York State Assembly District will not seek reelection since 2017 and will not retire when his term expires at the end of the year.

Morinello endorsed former Niagara County Legislature Speaker Rebecca Wydysh, whose term ended in December, to take the seat.
