Major airport issues huge update after closing in April – cancelled all flights | World | News

The airport has been closed since April 23 due to runway renovation works and all flights have been cancelled. website It reads: “Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport will be closed from April 23 to May 27, 2026 due to runway renovations. During this period, the airport will be closed to all air traffic and there will be no takeoffs or landings. If you have any questions about your flight status, schedule changes or possible rebooking, we recommend that you contact your airline.” Now, the airport’s management company, Aena, has released an update on the status of the renovations.

Aena said in a post on

“The work will continue with other actions but will continue with the preparation of the runway for aircraft operations.

“Calibration flights will be carried out to adjust the ILS precision system, which helps perform landings in low visibility conditions.”

While most of these British flights operate from London-based airports including Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, there are also non-direct flights from Manchester to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro. Major airlines operating the routes include British Airways, Ryanair, KLM and Vueling.

This comes as it was announced that the world’s busiest airport will be closed forever after opening 85 years ago. Dubai International Airport (DXB) will permanently close its gates in 2035 and all operations will be transferred to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).

DWC is currently undergoing a massive £28 billion development and is set to become the world’s largest air hub. When the work is completed, the airport at Dubai World Center is expected to be the largest in the world with an annual passenger capacity of up to 260 million people.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths reiterated these plans, saying: “There is little point in operating two major hubs so close together.

“We will move every service to DWC. By then every asset in DXB will have reached the end of its useful operating role, so the economics of keeping DXB open will not be possible unless we invest a large amount of money.”
