Nationwide General Strike To Impact Public Life Today

: Public life will be affected on Thursday, with 14 unions calling for a nationwide general strike. They want the repeal of four Labor Laws, claiming they undermine workers’ rights.

They also demand the rollback of policies that “weaken” public services, the restoration of the old pension scheme and the withdrawal of the 2020 National Education Policy.

The organizers expect support from agricultural, rural and informal sector workers, workers and teachers, as well as staff in central and state public sector organisations.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha has extended its support, raising concerns that the proposed India-US interim trade framework could harm farmers here.

Banking, transportation and government offices in many regions may be affected. Bank unions also participate in the protest. The government did not make a clear statement about the closure of educational institutions on the grounds that road transportation may be affected.

Auto rickshaw services in many urban areas will be affected as the auto joint action committee has announced a one-day deadline to meet its demands.

JAC has demanded the launch of a government-run app for booking auto services, instead of private aggregators like Ola, Uber and Rapido. They say a government-backed platform would eliminate intermediaries, reduce commission fees and ensure drivers earn fair profits.

The committee also called on the government to establish a special social welfare board to protect the interests of auto drivers and provide social security benefits.
