Nationwide Musical Tribute Marks Tagore’s 165th Birth Anniversary
Hyderabad: On the occasion of the 165th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, the city on Sunday became a part of the nationwide musical commemoration with an uninterrupted session of 17 Rabindra Sangeet compositions in a synchronized choral arrangement of over 1,100 singers across 11 states.
The concert ‘Chironutan: Shato Kantthr Sahosro Kanttho’ brought together over 100 singers from across the city under the Hanshadhwani Musical banner to represent Telangana in the second edition of this nationwide initiative conceptualized and directed by Arundhati Deb of Sangeet Bharati Muktadhara, Kolkata. Performances were streamed live, with performers in 11 states synchronized in real time.
“It was undoubtedly a huge challenge. Performing with 100 singers on stage while staying in sync with over 1,100 voices from across India required great preparation and coordination,” said organizer Biswajit Mukherjee. In Hyderabad, the training for the event was led by Manika Basu Thakur, who coordinated rehearsals in four districts of the city to bring together singers from various Bengali associations along with non-Bengali participants.
One of the organizers said that the event aims not only to celebrate Bengali identity but also to carry Tagore’s message of unity, fearlessness and togetherness beyond language and region. “Rabindra Sangeet is not nostalgia. Its spirit has transcended languages and regions,” said Mukherjee, adding that the participation of non-Bengali singers reflects Tagore’s enduring interest. After its successful first edition in 2024, the next edition of Chironutan is likely to be held in 2028, organizers said.
