Natwest will close 26 branches throughout England this month with a blow to High Street this month after the closure of more than 50 sites in 2025. It comes after a change in customer behavior with Natwest increases its focus on digital banking services.
It means that many elderly and disabled customers who trust their local banks will now have to use online services. Having the Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank, Natwest Group has closed more than 1,400 branches since January 2015, including 20 in 48 and 2023 last year. It will be closed in September 26 and 20 will sue in October.
Financial Behavior Authority (FCA) should still ensure that people can still access their money. The guard says some basic banking services can still be performed in a post office.
Natwest said: “Our customers use more digital banking than ever – more than 80% of our active current account holders use our digital services and more than 97% of their retail accounts are now open online.
“Like any enterprise, we are trying to meet the changing needs and expectations of our customers and respond to the change in digital services throughout the sector by investing in order to expand what the customers can do and to provide them more personalization.
“We also invest in a significant investment in renewing our network – we are expecting more than £ 20 million in our network in the United Kingdom in 2025 to improve customer service, increase the appearance and feeling of our branches and reduce the environmental impact of our buildings and continue to invest in common solutions such as post office and banking centers.”
