NCP set to close 22 sites days after plunging into administration – full list | UK | News

National Car Parks (NCP) has confirmed that around 20 of its car parks will be completely closed. The company, which employed 682 people and managed 340 car parks across the UK, collapsed into administration earlier this month.

Landlords and staff have now been told that 22 car parks are “no longer commercially viable” and will close on Friday, March 27. A source told Sky News that closing the sites would result in a “small” number of job losses. Meanwhile, the remaining 318 parking lots will remain open and no other locations have been identified for closure.

As reported by Sky NewsManagers concluded on Monday morning, March 23, that NCP’s 22 car parks would be completely closed. The company’s performance has been deteriorating for several years.

NCP property is spread across city centres, railway stations, airports and hospitals. The company has been in a difficult situation lately due to the increase in working from home and online shopping.

Bosses said the business “does not have sufficient cash to meet its financial obligations and therefore the directors have taken the decision to appoint administrators”. PwC was appointed as administrator and said it would “consult with landlords”, adding that a sale of “all or part of the business” was being considered.

As of September 30 last year, NCP had liabilities worth £305 million more than its assets were worth. The company said it had not yet recovered from the impact of Covid-19 and the increase in flexible working.

NCP was founded in 1931 and is one of the largest car park operators in the UK. PwC said the firm had a “high density” of inflexible leases which prevented it from scrapping unprofitable car parks.

Parking fees vary by location; Some sites in central London charge up to £65 for 24 hours. In Manchester, some car parks can cost up to 333 Euros for a 24-hour stay.

An NCP spokesman said: “National Car Parks Limited (NCP) – in administration – 22 sites will close on 27 March, while all other sites will remain open. On Monday 16 March 2026, Zelf Hussain, Rachael Wilkinson and Toby Banfield of PwC were appointed Joint Administrators of National Car Parks Limited.

“After a beginning Following an assessment of operations, joint managers have identified 22 sites that are commercially unviable and will therefore be closed to customers from 23:59 on 27 March.

“Unfortunately, due to the closure of these sites, 33 employees will be laid off on 31 March. They will be supported through the statutory redundancy payments process. The other 318 car parks will remain open and no further sites for closure have been identified at this time.”

NCP has confirmed that these 22 car parks will close at 11.59pm on Friday 27 March.
