NEET Leak: SC Seeks Accountability; Govt Says PM Monitoring

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday stressed the need for accountability for mistakes in the NEET papers leak issue and said it would be “actually very traumatic” if such a thing happened, not only for the students but also for their families.
“We should not disappoint our youth,” a bench comprising Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe said while hearing pleas on the issue; One of them sought a direction to replace or restructure the National Testing Agency (NTA) with a robust and autonomous agency to conduct medical entry examination.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that the government was seriously concerned about the concerns of youth and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was personally monitoring the situation to ensure that no loophole was left.
“The real problem will not end until real accountability is revealed,” the board said.
“It’s actually very traumatic when something like this happens, not just for the students, but also for their families and everyone else.” he said and added: “They bring so much emotion.”
Mehta told the bench that some new mechanisms have been put in place for the NEET-UG retest scheduled to be held on June 21.
The board asked the center to make a statement on the issue and sent the matter to a hearing in the second week of July.
On May 12, NTA canceled the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET held on May 3 for medical admissions amid allegations of paper leak. The exam was planned to be held again on June 21.
Allegations of paper leak are being investigated by the CBI.
To recall, following the alleged leaking of questions of NEET-UG in 2024, the apex court had refused to cancel the test but had passed various directions aimed at combating paper leaks and also a benchmark for cancellation of public exams. PTI ABA ABA ARI
