NEET row: Rajya Sabha MPs Naseer Hussain, Sandosh Kumar move Rule 267 notice; seek discussion on ‘systemic crisis’
CPI MP Sandosh Kumar P and Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain filed notices with the General Secretary of the Upper House, calling for immediate discussion and demanding accountability from the Union government.
In his notice, MP Sandosh Kumar P called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, citing a “complete breakdown” in the conduct of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).
“Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan must explain these repeated failures before Parliament and accept responsibility for the collapse of the examination system. In the interest of constitutional responsibility and public trust, his retention in office has become untenable and Parliament must call on him to resign,” Kumar’s statement said.
He also highlighted that student protests across the country reflected “a growing loss of confidence among young people in the fairness of the examination process”.
Similarly, Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain issued a statement calling for immediate discussion on the “systemic crisis” affecting over 22 lakh candidates and cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 following allegations of a large-scale paper leak network.
Hussain’s notice pointed out that “at least 65 recruitment exam papers have been leaked again” and noted that at least 93 NEET-related student suicides have been reported in the last five years, raising concerns about “serious academic, financial and psychological distress” caused to students. The Congress leader also flagged “reports of excessive police use of force against students and parents protesting peacefully for accountability”, including lathi charge and use of water cannons.
Both statements emphasized the “urgent need for comprehensive reforms to restore public confidence in India’s examination, evaluation and recruitment systems” and stated that the issue was about the future of millions of students and the integrity of the country’s education system.
