New Delhi: Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif led to controversy with a social media mission targeting the country’s best bureaucracy. He claimed that more than half of Pakistan’s most senior officials had purchased property abroad using money that was often moved out of the country during the strong government positions.

According to him, these real estate investments were not made at traditional destinations such as the US or the United Kingdom. Instead, many authorities bought land in Portugal, a relatively small European country.

He claimed that an increasing number is now working to secure Portuguese citizenship and some have already achieved.

Government records show that approximately 3,000 Pakistani acquired Portuguese citizenship between 2016-2024.

ASIF said that most of these individuals have served in high -ranking tasks during their term of office and made “billions of money, and that he plans to plan a“ peaceful retirement life abroad abroad.

Offering an example, the Minister drew attention to a senior officer close to the former Punjab Prime Minister Usman Buzdar, who allegedly collected approximately 4 billion Pakistan Rupes in “Salam” (Cash Gifts) during their wedding’s weddings. Asif said that this officer has now settled abroad.
