According to CNN, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in his statement after the bilateral meeting between the two leaders in Florida on Monday that US President Donald Trump will be awarded the Israel Peace Prize, Israel’s highest civilian honor.
Netanyahu said that the Israeli government decided to give the Israel Peace Prize to Trump, that this award will be given to a non-Israeli citizen for the first time in 80 years, and that it is the first time that the Peace category has been awarded.
The announcement was made by Netanyahu at a joint press conference with Trump following bilateral talks at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on Monday. Trump reacted by calling the honor unexpected and appreciated.

“President Trump broke many conventions to surprise people, so we decided to break a convention or create a new one, that is, to give President Trump the Israel Prize, which we have not given to non-Israelis for 80 years. This was officially announced by our Minister of Education at lunch that President Donald J Trump should be awarded this award for his great contributions to Israel and the Jewish people,” Netanyahu said.
“This reflects the overwhelming sentiment of Israelis across the spectrum; they appreciate what you have done to help Israel and our common fight against terrorists.”
Trump responded by saying the award was “truly amazing and much appreciated.”
The Israel Prize is the country’s highest civilian honor, traditionally awarded to Israeli citizens for their excellence in fields such as science, arts and humanities. The peace category has never received an award before. In July 2025, Israel changed the award rules to allow the award to be awarded to a foreign citizen, paving the way for Trump’s election.
CNN reported that Trump is expected to attend Israel’s Independence Day celebrations to receive the award. Education Minister Yoav Kisch attended the meeting by phone to formally inform Trump about the decision, and the US president stated that he would consider attending the ceremony.
Trump and Netanyahu also talked about disarmament of Hamas, including the occupied West Bank, which is the second phase of the Gaza peace plan. Trump acknowledged differences between the two leaders but said talks were ongoing.

Despite the differences, Trump said he had no concerns about Israel’s actions.
“I don’t care about anything Israel does. I worry about what other people do or don’t do, but I don’t care. They went along with the plan. They are powerful,” he said.
“Israel has fulfilled the plan 100 percent,” Trump said.
Netanyahu described the talks as extremely productive and praised Trump’s role in the region.
“I had a very, very productive meeting with US President Donald Trump,” Netanyahu said. “Thank you for your support.”
He added that Trump “has accomplished remarkable things in the Middle East because we worked together.”
