Netanyahu Postpones India Visit Over Security Fears After Delhi Terror Attack | India News

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once again postponed his planned visit to India to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to reports in Israeli media, the trip, planned for later this year, was postponed due to increasing security concerns following the deadly terrorist attack in New Delhi two weeks ago.

The attack, described as the worst in more than a decade in India’s capital, tragically left at least 15 people dead and dozens injured. New dates for the visit are expected to be determined for next year, depending on comprehensive security assessments.

Postponement Comes After Deadly Delhi Attack

The decision to postpone the high-profile visit follows a reported terrorist incident in New Delhi that prompted a security review by Israeli authorities.

Security Assessment: Israeli news outlet i24NEWS, quoting sources, reported that the postponement was a direct result of the security environment created after the New Delhi attack. The visit was planned to be Netanyahu’s first visit to India since 2018.

New Timeline: Netanyahu is expected to seek some time to reschedule the visit for next year (2026), depending on improved security conditions and assessments.

Third Cancellation in One Year

This latest postponement of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit to India marks the third cancellation this year alone and highlights a pattern of repeated delays, although the underlying reasons vary.

While the current cancellation (end 2025) is attributed to urgent Security Concerns following the major terrorist attack in New Delhi, the previous two postponements were rooted in domestic politics.

The first hearing, which took place in early 2025, was canceled due to Planning Issues just before the April Israeli elections.

A second cancellation occurred on September 9, 2025, also citing Timing Issues necessitated by the unprecedented repeat polls conducted in Israel on September 17.

Diplomatic Ties and Political Structure

The cancellation disrupts the strong diplomatic momentum that has built up between India and Israel in recent years, largely driven by the close personal relationship between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Historical Context: Prime Minister Modi made a historic trip to Tel Aviv in 2017, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the Jewish state, followed by a reciprocal visit by Prime Minister Netanyahu in January 2018.

Political Leverage: The close chemistry between the two leaders is often emphasized in the Israeli press. During his recent political campaign, Netanyahu made a point of highlighting photographs featuring Prime Minister Modi as well as leaders such as US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an attempt to project a leader with a unique global stature who is indispensable to Israel’s security.
