Netflix releases glimpse of Peaky Blinders film starring Cillian Murphy | Peaky Blinders

Two stars of Irish acting come together as Cillian Murphy meets Barry Keoghan in the first look at the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders movie.

In the 70-second teaser, which Netflix released on Christmas Eve, Murphy questions the identity of “famous gypsy gangster” Tommy Shelby.

In the film, it is told that Tommy returns from exile voluntarily in the midst of the chaos of World War II. In the trailer, a voice says: “What happened to Tommy Shelby? Famous gypsy gangster.”

“I’m not that guy anymore,” Shelby says, and in a separate clip, he can be seen walking away, holding his head down while wearing his signature baker’s hat, after a female voice says, “Tommy, you need to come back.”

Viewers are also given a look at Keoghan’s character, who wears a white vest with tattoos on his arms.

The upcoming film is a sequel to the hit BBC series about the rise of the Birmingham-based crime family the Shelbys.

The series’ six seasons spanned from the end of World War I to the end of Prohibition in the United States.

Returning cast members include Sophie Rundle as Ada Shelby, Stephen Graham as union collector Hayden Stagg, and Packy Lee as Tommy’s friend Johnny Dogs.

Saltburn actor Keoghan, Dune actress Rebecca Ferguson and Reservoir Dogs star Tim Roth are among the new additions.

The film was directed by Tom Harper and written by creator Steven Knight, who will write the next James Bond movie.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man will be released in cinemas on March 6 next year and will be available on Netflix from March 20.

In October, the BBC announced that Peaky Blinders would return with two new series focusing on “a new generation of Shelbys”.

The spin-off series is set in 1953, years after the events of the upcoming feature film, and will be filmed at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham.

Murphy, 49, will return to executive produce, but it has not yet been announced whether he will reprise his role as the title character.

The spinoff is the latest incarnation in the Peaky Blinders universe after Rambert Studios’ ballet about Tommy.

The sixth series, which aired in 2022 and was announced as the final series, saw Tommy nearly shoot himself after being given false information that he had a brain tumour.

Peaky Blinders first aired on BBC Two in 2013, before being acquired by Netflix in 2014, where it gained a global following and catapulted Murphy to international fame, alongside co-stars Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy and the late Helen McCrory.

The series, which also fueled the rise in popularity of the straight title, moved to BBC One in 2019 after winning the Bafta award for best drama series for its fourth season.
