While US President Donald Trump awaits a decision on the legality of the country’s tariff policies, he warned that a possible decision by the Supreme Court limiting its authority to impose tariffs would harm national security.

The warning comes as the Supreme Court continues to review challenges to Trump’s sweeping use of tariffs, a process that began Nov. 5.

The scrutiny intensified; Many businesses and Democratic-led states have appealed to the U.S. Court of International Trade, arguing that tariff powers belong to Congress, not the president.

In this context, Trump said on social media, “The greatest threat to the National Security of the United States in history would be a negative decision of the US Supreme Court on Tariffs,” and warned that such a decision would leave the country “financially vulnerable.”

He also argued: “We are not allowed to do what others are already doing!” He’s referring to a photo shared by French President Emmanuel Macron during his recent visit to China.

Macron recently warned Beijing that the European Union could impose tariffs “in the coming months” if China does not eliminate its trade surplus with Europe.

Defending the tariff approach, Trump said, “Due to easily and quickly implemented tariffs, our National Security has increased greatly and we have become by far the most financially powerful Nation anywhere in the world. Only dark and evil forces want to see this end!!!”

His remarks underscored his assertion that tariffs are central to U.S. economic and security strategy.

The comments come at a politically sensitive time for Trump, whose approval ratings have plummeted since returning to office.

Rising costs of living have become a major concern for voters, tying domestic economic pressures to broader tariff debates.

While inflation rose to 2.8 percent on an annual basis in September, legal and political disputes over tariffs continue to take shape in the difficult economic environment.
