New app plans to connect Britain with 87,000 miles of walking routes | UK | News

Web developer from Raven-Ellison is in the task of combining every town, city and national landscape in England through safe and accessible walking paths.

He said: ”In order to think about mental health and prosperity, a good way gives someone the psychological security and psychological confidence to go to a place where they haven’t been before and try it. Once, they can go back at another time.

“These routes are ways or ways for everything that walks can do for us, not only walking paths, so, for better mental health, better physical health, for individuals and society. It often means better relationships for walks. Start walking and fun, so a great combination.”

Raven-Ellison from Exeter began to work on Slowways Walking Network during his pandemi.

It began as a map created by volunteers during Lockdown to show the best hiking trails among all the main towns of England.

Thousands of people have been helping to create a network by about 87,000 miles throughout the country since then.

Mr. Raven-Ellison said: orum I love walking a lot, and for some reason, I started to realize that you can easily lead to car or rails in the country by using the existing maps we have on existing maps.

“We have been walking on these islands for hundreds of thousands of years. People have been walking as people since they are human. And nevertheless, although the most common, affordable, healthy, the most common way to walk around, we neglect our ability to walk around this place. Therefore, we deserve a suitable national walking network that makes our ways easier to find our ways.”

For people with strollers or wheelchairs, inclusiveness and accessibility are at the center of the latest expansion plans of the project.

The creator said: “If you are a single parent with twins in a stroller, if you or a disabled person, many rural areas cannot be used for you because there is not enough information for you knowing that there is a path.”

He said how many prosperity and fitness application or the steps of people are watching, but very few emphasizes how sufficient walking paths are if they want to explore or spend time in nature.

Raven-Ellison wants to use the platform to strengthen schools, charities, councils, and community groups to create their own networks.

The project has collected £ 250,000 £ 68,500 required to renew the website and improve users’ experience.
