New CCTV reveals moment Australian businesswoman Carolyn Creswell choked on steak at dinner party
CCTV footage has revealed the moment high-profile Australian businesswoman Carolyn Creswell came close to death after choking on a piece of steak at a dinner party.
Ms Creswell, founder of gourmet food brand Carman’s Kitchen, went public about the terrifying ordeal that turned into a life-or-death situation that led to her being hospitalized in 2024.
The mother-of-four was eating dinner with friends at her Gippsland farm with her husband Peter when she started choking on a piece of steak.
Footage obtained by The Herald Sun shows Ms Creswell walking towards the sink and collapsing to the floor before walking out.
While her husband tries to remove the piece of meat, she is surrounded by others at dinner – one of them dials triple-0.
“Pete tried everything to make this go away,” Ms. Creswell wrote in a post on her Instagram page at the time.
Guests attempted CPR until paramedics arrived, suffering nine broken ribs and a sternum from the force of their life-saving efforts.
“Apparently, CPR is no good if it doesn’t break a few things!” Ms. Creswell wrote.
The Herald Sun newspaper reported on Thursday that Ms Creswell was reunited with Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic Trent Jackson and Triple Zero Victoria call taker Imogen Disney, saying she had guided Peter through the triple-0 call and “did everything right”.
“He gave the address clearly and quickly so we could get help right away, and despite everything that was going on, he remained very calm and listened to all my instructions so we were able to continue CPR together until the paramedics arrived,” he said.
“His actions helped save Carolyn’s life that day.”
Ms Creswell spent a week recovering in the intensive care unit at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital; He required stitches to his head and treatment for significant trauma from the resuscitation.
Despite her severe injuries, Ms Creswell said she was “forever grateful every day for the 100 per cent recovery” and credited her survival to the quick thinking of her husband, friends and emergency services, and credited the calm triple-0 operator who spoke to the group via CPR.
He also thanked Life Saving Victoria for equipping Australians with first aid skills that could mean the difference between life and death.
“I wanted to say a big thank you to @lifekurtarmavic for teaching skills that could save someone’s life (like mine!),” she wrote.
Ms Creswell said she was very impressed with the care she received at the hospital.
“How lucky we are to live in a country with such incredible medical care,” he wrote.
Doctors later gave a clear warning that he could not forget.
“It’s always steak,” he wrote.
