New study shows true power of your social media posts during a time of crisis

In the face of difficulty, positivity and solidarity increased social media participation, regardless of political commitment, and a new study was found.
Later in this week, research from the University of Cambridge, which will be published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, reveals that during the political turmoil, users have instantly moved away from anger and took place towards unity messages.
Dr. Jon Roozenbeek, a lecturer at psychology at the University of Cambridge and his senior writer, said, ız We didn’t know whether political moments rather than existential crisis would trigger solidarity in a deep polarized country as the US.
“In times of crisis, the love of internal group may be more important to us than hating the group on social media.”
The university’s social decision -making laboratory analyzed more than 62,000 posts from Facebook accounts of US politicians, commentators and media organizations before and after major crises and investigated how they changed online behavior.
After US President Donald Trump assassination attempt, Cumhuriyet Erticrafts, which pointed out the unity and shared identity, had an increase of 17 percent just before the shooting.
On the other hand, the Republican duties that attacked the democrats saw a 23 percent decrease in a few days ago.
The same tendencies can be seen as the tasks expressing solidarity after their leaders Joe Biden left the election race, and 91 percent more aimed than those who did not.
In 2021, the same Cambridge Lab published a study that revealed how hostile social media against a rival ideological side took twice as much as those who introduced their side.
Malia Marks, a doctoral candidate at the Department of Psychology at Cambridge, and the chief writer of the study, said, “Negative emotions such as hostility towards rival political groups and anger and anger are often rocket fuel for social media participation.
“However, we found the opposite. Apparently political crises are not too many group hatred, but rather arouses the love of internal group.”
Last year, the Cambridge team issued a study of 1.6 million Ukraine social media mission before and after Russia’s occupation in February 2022.
After the occupation, he saw an increase for the “Internal Group Solidarity” poles, which determined a similar trend, which achieved 92 percent more participation on Facebook and 68 percent more on Twitter. The tasks that were hostile to Russia received very little participation.
“Researchers argue that the findings from the last study are even more surprising, considering the weight of the threat to Ukraine and the nature of the population,” the report said in the report.
Cambridge’s social decision -making laboratory, a joint writer and doctoral candidate Yara Kyrychenko said: “Social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook are increasingly creating toxic information environments that intensify more and more social and political departments, and now there are many research to support it.”
“Nevertheless, when social media takes over as the dominant driving force of emotional and psychological preference for its own group, online behaviors, we can see that the flag flapping in moments of crisis.”
