New surveillance aircraft arrives at RAF Lossiemouth
The first of a new fleet of surveillance aircraft to be deployed to RAF Lossiemouth has arrived at Moray base.
The RAF said the Wedgetail is equipped with technology to provide early warning and other information during combat situations.
The aircraft and crew will conduct a “test and evaluation phase” at Lossiemouth.
Two more Wedgetails will join the fleet and they will serve with Typhoon jets. Poseidon submarine fighter at the weather station.

It was announced that a new fleet of surveillance aircraft will be established in 2020. Works at RAF Lossiemouth.
Wedgetail is described as the RAF’s “next generation airborne early warning and control” aircraft.

On arrival at Lossiemouth base the aircraft was greeted by station commander Gp Lt Sarah Brewin.
He said: “We welcome the arrival of the first Wedgetail aircraft at RAF Lossiemouth to continue the testing and evaluation phase.
“This marks a significant step in delivering the Royal Air Force’s next generation airborne surveillance and control capabilities that will support the UK’s defense for years to come.

“RAF Lossiemouth has been working hard to prepare to operate these aircraft and we look forward to the next exciting chapter in the station’s history when the aircraft enters RAF service.”
