New V-8 engines, redesigned styling

DETROIT – General Engines It introduced the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck lineup on Thursday with new V-8 engine options and redesigned interior and exterior design.

According to GM, new GMC trucks are crucial to the automaker’s sales and earnings, especially its highly profitable Denali luxury models and off-road AT4 models, which represent roughly half of the vehicle’s current sales. Such models have unique parts, accessories, and amenities that will increase the company’s pricing and profits.

GM said Thursday it has narrowed the model lineup for the next-generation Sierra to Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate. It currently discontinues midlevel SLE and SLT trims, which start at around $51,500 and $57,900, respectively.

GM said pricing details, as well as performance features, will be announced closer to when the vehicles go on sale towards the end of this year. Starting prices for the current Sierra 1500 series range from around $41,000 for the entry-level Pro to $86,000 for the Denali Ultimate.

“With the next-generation Sierra 1500, we bring together next-generation Small Block V8 power, precision off-road capability and our most immersive cabin experience to date,” Michael MacPhee, GM’s vice president of GMC and Buick brands, said in a statement. “The next-generation Sierra is the truck by which all others will be compared.”

Most notably, GMC pickups have very different styling from their Chevy siblings, taking styling cues from the brand’s all-electric Sierra pickup truck and featuring a new interior.

The interior cabin features more storage space, a sliding center console and a folding table or work surface; This is all possible by moving the shifter from the center console to behind the steering wheel. It also includes more than 60 inches of available screens, including an 11.5-inch passenger-side screen with new technologies and media and entertainment functions.

There are other important changes under the hood. Like Silverado models, GMC pickups will feature the next generation of the automaker’s small-block V-8 gas engines, available in 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter options.

In addition to the V-8 engines, GMC trucks will offer two six-cylinder engines, including a GM-exclusive diesel version.

GM’s U.S. sales are expected to fall about 7% in the first half of this year, according to Cox Automotive. Sales in the overall market are expected to fall about 3%, Cox said Wednesday.

Sales of the Sierra 1500 fell about 2% to about 51,900 units, while larger, heavy-duty models fell about 8% to about 24,500 units.
