New video shows Oklahoma principal tackle gunman at high school shooting

Newly released video shows the moment a high school principal in Oklahoma confronted and subdued the gunman who had opened fire on the school.

The footage shows Pauls Valley High School Principal Kirk Moore confronting the suspect, identified as 20-year-old former student Victor Hawkins, after he entered the building on April 7.

Authorities said Moore was shot in the leg during the confrontation and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The video also shows someone opening the door and allowing the suspected attacker to enter the building.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) said: KFOR-TV He does not believe the person is working with the suspect. A spokesman said investigators had not determined whether the person who answered the door was a student or staff member.

An OSBI spokesperson told Fox News Digital there are no other suspects in the case.

The shooting occurred around 2:21 p.m., prompting a quarantine until officers could clear the scene, authorities said. Moore and other personnel subdued the gunman until law enforcement arrived and arrested Hawkins.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet, Hawkins entered the school with two loaded semi-automatic handguns.

The affidavit alleges that Moore ran into the lobby after hearing gunshots, and Hawkins fired at him, hitting him in the leg.

Moore then “wrestled with Hawkins on a bench in the foyer and managed to knock Hawkins’ gun out of his hand,” according to testimony. Moore and other staff held the suspect down until officers arrived.

Hawkins was charged last week with one count of shooting with intent to kill, one count of carrying a weapon into a public meeting and two counts of pointing a firearm.

Court documents reviewed by the outlet show that Hawkins looked into the Columbine school shooting and told investigators he “wanted to carry out his own school shootings like the Columbine shooters did.”

After entering the school, Hawkins allegedly pointed a gun and shouted at people to “get on the ground.” KFOR reported.

He then pointed a gun at a student and tried to shoot, but the gun malfunctioned, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states that Hawkins attempted to clear the malfunction and then fired at another student, who raised his hands and begged not to be shot.

According to investigators, Hawkins lowered his gun and told the students to leave.

The OSBI said Moore and school staff acted quickly to stop the attack.

“The school principal had noticed a 20-year-old adult male walking into the school with a gun,” OSBI spokesman Hunter McKee said. KOCO-TV. “When the principal noticed this, he quickly intervened, as did other staff members. The subject was able to fire multiple shots, where the principal was injured but no one else was injured.”

“Today, the actions of the staff and principal who intervened upon sighting a person carrying a firearm saved lives,” McKee added.
