A newborn baby was found dead inside a portaloo at an American music festival in a shocking discovery that police declared a murder.

According to Michigan State Police, the cleanup crew at Electric Forest in Michigan came across the baby during routine maintenance Sunday morning.

According to News 8, police discovered that the baby was found in the restrooms at the festival’s campsite and was believed to have been born inside the portaloo, with the placenta and umbilical cord allegedly present.

The outlet confirmed that the baby was born alive and breathing, with fluid in his lungs and stomach.

Michigan State Police Lt. Pat Agema confirmed that the newborn’s death has been classified as a homicide. The autopsy was completed on Wednesday and the official report is still pending.

The identity of anyone who may be connected to the child has not yet been released.

Thousands of attendees were camping on land near Lake Michigan for the festival starting Thursday.

Police said in a statement: “Michigan State Police continue to investigate the discovery of a dead newborn found at the Electric Forest Festival campground Sunday morning. Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance.”

“If you are in the area and have observed anything unusual or have information that you think may be relevant, we encourage you to come forward.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and ask people to refrain from speculation on social media out of respect for the investigation and those affected.”

One festival attendee shared on Reddit that when they woke up Sunday morning, police were at the scene and had no knowledge of what had happened.

They wrote on Sunday: “This happened by us in pre-erected tents on Electric Avenue. “We got up this morning to leave the festival and there were approximately six to eight police officers, four police cars and a group of security/EF personnel parked right around the cordoned off portable restrooms.

“We didn’t know what was going on, but we thought it was something bad. But it’s so scary.

“My girlfriend used the same portable toilets around 6am and she might have been unlucky enough to get into one of them. So sad.”

Another user wrote in a post that was later deleted that they saw the doll but believed it was a doll at the time.

The post read: “I went into the porta potty and was about to sit down but I saw what looked like a baby face.

“I was confused for a moment, but to be honest I thought it was a doll. People bring weird things to festivals all the time and it never occurred to me that it was a real body.”

“It occurred to me after reading the report.

“I’m living with this crazy amount of guilt right now. Maybe if I had taken this seriously and reported it sooner, that baby would still be alive. I’m too traumatized, though, and I won’t be going to any music festivals or porta potties for a long time.”

Electric Forest wrote in an online statement: “Forest Family, it pains us to have to share this difficult news with you. Michigan State Police continue to investigate this tragic incident if you can help in any way. Headquarters is heartbroken and knows our Forest Family is in the same situation.”

Despite the tragedy, the festival released a message at the end of the event celebrating ‘another stunner’, prompting angry festival-goers to brand the organizers ‘tone deaf’.

One user said: “It’s so crazy that the biggest headline on here is about a dead baby in a portable toilet but you’re like ‘wow another great year’ just shut this damn thing down forever.”

Another criticized the festival for being ‘disconnected’, while many others described the response as ‘tone deaf’. ‘.

Officers have appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist their investigation.

Disturbingly, this wasn’t the only horrific event to wreak havoc on Electric Forest during the event, which was marred by several deaths following a car crash and suicide.

Jerard ‘Jay’ Jackson, 28, was reported missing after he was last seen leaving the festival on Monday morning. Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities found Jackson’s body and said he had hanged himself.

Michigan Police also confirmed there was a car accident connected to the festival, and a third party is still unaccounted for.
