A dad struggling to survive in a £10 Asda store was stunned to see how long his humble journey took. Using Just Deano, the online person withdrew a tenner from the cash machine before putting his budget to the test.

Outlining his mission, he explained to viewers: “It’s currently Friday when I’m shooting this. I’m starting this tomorrow morning, Saturday, and I’m hoping that will get me through the weekend. Ideally, it’ll be 72 hours through Monday and then, we’ll see.”

He admitted that he had made no preparations and had not set foot in Asda for a long time, meaning he set out completely unprepared.

Despite this, Deano managed to purchase about 15 items, from white bread, pasta sauce, baked beans, curry sauce and instant noodles to fish fingers, carrots, bananas, sausage, four jacket potatoes, cherry tomatoes, pepperoni pizza, red onions and mushrooms.

Underlining his star rating, he said: “Chicken, now this is definitely a bargain, 1.1kg of chicken thigh. Now I know most of that weight will be bone, but at £1.92, there’s a lot of load in there.”

Day One

Opening day started with scrambled eggs for breakfast, a dish he praised as amazing, followed by sausage sarnie for lunch and pizza in the evening.

As he ate his frozen pizza, he said: “Great. That’s right. It’s £1.10, can you beat that? Well, you can get it for £89 at Aldi.”

Day Two

Deano’s breakfast consisted of nothing more than a modest banana, followed by beans on toast for lunch.

Sharing his thoughts on the budget fare, he said: “What do 28 baked beans actually taste like? You know I tell people beans to beans, right? But is it really like that? It’s okay to be fair. There’s a nice sweetness to them. I think Branston beans are probably the best if I’m honest. But they’ll do.”

Documenting some family meals with his wife and daughter, the creator continued to batch-cook chicken drumsticks and reserve portions for future dinners.

While she roasted and mashed two of her jacket potatoes, she also prepared roasted carrots on the side.

Eating his Sunday fries, he observed: “Obviously it’s not top-quality chicken or anything like that, but the point of keeping it tight is how does it taste?

“You know, there’s plenty of meat in there. It’s absolutely perfect. Could use a few more (butts). Obviously I’m missing my Yorkshire puddings and stuff, but you can’t do everything.”

Day Three

As the third day dawned, Deano admitted that the fight was “becoming difficult” as his supplies dwindled.

He started his morning before preparing an all-day brunch of toast, two leftover sausages, half a can of leftover beans, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and eggs.

For dinner, he repurposed the previous day’s chicken by combining it with store-bought curry sauce.

Day Four

Kicking off day four, Deano told his 36,400 followers: “I didn’t expect to get this far! I was hoping this video would come out today, so it’s going to take longer than I expected but there’s still a lot in here.”

Breakfast once again consisted of toast; For lunch, he showed off his culinary prowess by boiling the remaining chicken bones and skin, then combining a bag of instant noodles with chopped mushrooms to create a chicken and mushroom broth.

Adding noodles to the mix, he observed: “Okay, it really doesn’t look that appetizing. It’s too dark.”

But appearances were deceiving and he continued: “We’ll try the noodles first. These are cheap, I think they’re 20-odd pence. It looks like dirty canal water or something in here but it’s actually absolutely delicious, full chicken mushroom flavour. It’s a win-win. Wow, how nice. Crispy. See you at tea time.”

By evening, he admitted he was “very bored” with the experiment, before opting for simple foods. Dinner consisted of fish finger drumsticks along with homemade chips made from the last two jacket potatoes.

Reflecting on his success and responding to potential criticism of his culinary choices, he concluded: “I think I did a good job there.

“I know I’m not very creative in the kitchen or anything. Thank you for watching me. I’m just a normal guy who can’t cook, who doesn’t cook. I do the best I can and only buy normal food for normal people. I think I did a good job there too. I didn’t expect it to take four days.”

After the video was published, can be seen in full hereone viewer replied: “Living on £10 wasn’t an easy challenge these days. But you managed to finish the meal in four days, so good.”

Another commented: “Great video especially in this day and age… but please toast your bread instead of reheating it.”

A third suggested: “I think you’ve got enough left over to make an omelette for breakfast tomorrow, Deano!”
