Meghan ‘didn’t understand what was going on’ when she joined The Firm | Royal | News

Meghan Markle “didn’t understand what was going on” when she joined the Royal Family, according to one royal writer. The 44-year-old actress officially joined the Firm after marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
The couple, who now live in California, announced surprise plans to step away from royal life less than two years after getting married. US-born Meghan was an actress before her marriage to The Firm, most notably as Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits.
Speaking of Meghan, Catherine Mayer – author of new book Divide and Conquer – She told HELLO’s A Right Royal Podcast: “Being the spouse of a reservist always meant a secondary role in the eyes of the institution.
“And one of the sources of initial confusion about Meghan coming in was that she had all this incredibly positive press, this enthusiasm, and then she was in an institution that was trying to say, ‘No, stay in your lane,’ which they were doing because they saw their job as keeping the institution balanced, not serving individuals.”
Supporting Meghan, who previously shared that she didn’t know much about the Royal Family, Ms Mayer added: “But Meghan had wonderful people working for her.
“I don’t think he understands how amazing the people who work for him are, but I understand why he doesn’t understand what’s going on.
“And I think the expectation that he should be comes from people who don’t know what it’s like to be behind the palace gates. I know that would definitely mislead me.”
After stepping down from royal duties, Meghan moved with Harry and their son Prince Archie, now seven, to start a new life in the US.
The couple later welcomed their daughter Princess Lilibet in June 2021.
The family will travel to England next month and Harry is set to take part in the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games.
