NFL: Cowboys beat Chiefs on Thanksgiving, while Packers win at Lions
The Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff hopes are hanging by a thread after losing 31-28 to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
The Cowboys have traditionally hosted games on the American holiday since 1966, and ‘America’s Team’ put together a spectacular performance to beat the Chiefs despite Patrick Mahomes giving up four touchdowns on his return home to Texas.
Mahomes has led the Chiefs to five of the last six Super Bowls, winning three, but they currently have a 6-6 record and are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2014 season.
The Cowboys came from behind to lead 17-14 at the half, but a tense finish began when the Chiefs took a 21-20 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Dak Prescott held his nerve, allowing Dallas to score 11 points on the next two possessions to keep them clear despite the Chiefs’ late response.
After defeating the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the Cowboys made it back to back wins against both of last season’s Super Bowl teams in four days.
After a thrilling 21-point comeback against the Eagles, who denied a three-pointer against the Chiefs in February, the win over Kansas City marked Dallas’ third straight win to improve to 6-5-1 and keep alive its hopes of sneaking into the postseason.
With five games remaining, Dallas sits in second place in the NFC East behind the Eagles (8-3), while the Chiefs sit behind both the Denver Broncos (9-2) and Los Angeles Chargers (7-4) in the AFC West.
