NFL news: Bills rough up Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers in pivotal matchup

Aaron Rodgers was bloodied and beaten during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Buffalo Bills and had to leave Sunday’s game after taking a hard hit in the third quarter.

Rodgers and the Steelers started the second half with the ball and finished the game ahead 7-3. The four-time NFL MVP dropped back to pass and was tackled by Bills linebacker Joey Bosa. Rodgers’ face scraped against the frozen grass and he fell on his already broken left ankle.

Bills linebacker Christian Benford picked up the loose ball and returned it for a touchdown. When Rodgers returned to the field, blood was seen flowing from the bridge of his nose.

Mason Rudolph replaced Rodgers on the next drive. He threw an interception to Benford and started a Josh Allen touchdown drive.

Rodgers returned to the game midway through the third quarter. Steelers’ medical staff tended to a cut on his nose

Rodgers, who suffered a broken ankle a few weeks ago, was 6-of-13 for 54 yards before being removed from the game. He decided to play despite the pain and was working on his pistol formation for most of the game.

The Steelers entered the Week 13 game for first place in the AFC North. Through 10 games, Rodgers had 1,969 passing yards, 19 touchdown passes and seven interceptions.
