“Slay is honored to have a top-notch organization like the Bills claim him, but he will take some time away from football at this time and will decide over the next few days whether he wants to continue playing,” Rosenhaus told the Associated Press.
34-year-old Slay will turn 35 on New Year’s Eve. He spent the first half of the season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He joined Pittsburgh after helping the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl title in 2024. He played 10 games for the Steelers before the two parted ways. Pittsburgh waived him to make room for wide receiver Adam Thielen.
In these 10 games, he had 36 steals, three deflections and a fumble recovery performance.

If Slay doesn’t report, Buffalo may have lost a player in the process. The team allowed linebacker Ja’Marcus Ingram to make room for Slay. The Houston Texans acquired Ingram on Thursday.
Slay would be joined by depth in the secondary with Tre’Dacious White and rookie Maxwell Hairston, who played alongside Christian Benford for most of the season.
The cornerback was a standout player at Mississippi State and was selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played seven years with the Lions, earning an All-Pro selection and three Pro Bowl honors.
