Detroit Lions fan Ryan Kennedy, who got into an argument with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, held a press conference on Friday and said he did not make any racial slurs towards Metcalf.

Kennedy said he did not use any racial slurs or hate speech on Sunday, adding that as a season ticket holder for 15 years, he had never done so.

“It’s really hard for me to get upset, but there are two things – animal abuse, racism – it’s like I instantly get hot. Like, I can feel my face getting hot. So I guess I just want to be very clear about something: I didn’t use any racial slurs, hate speech or any of that in the game,” Kennedy said.

“Actually, never. I’ve been a Lions season ticket holder for 15 years, I’ve never done this.”

Kennedy said his family had received threats and asked Metcalf to confirm that Kennedy had not made any racial slurs against the Steelers star. At the press conference, Kennedy referred to Metcalf by his real name, DeKaylin, rather than his commonly used nickname, DK.

“DeKaylin, if you’re watching this guy, if you can just say that, please. My family is getting threats and stuff. It’s not cool. I mean, whether you say that or not, I’m sure you don’t want it to happen to your family, even if you say that. Like, I forgive you, man. That’s all I can do. Come on, Lions,” Kennedy said.
