Nigel Farage accounts ‘not consistent’ with claim he paid for £1.4 million house with I’m A Celebrity fee

Nigel Farage faces calls for transparency over the finances of his £1.4 million home, while questions have also emerged over its link to a £5 million gift from a Reform UK donor.

The reform leader reportedly purchased the property for cash in 2024, shortly after receiving a significant donation from Thailand-based billionaire Christopher Harborne.

Mr Farage insists the gift is unrelated and claims the house was funded by the fee he received for appearing on ITV I’m a celebrity…Get me out of here In 2023.

But analysis of Mr Farage’s company accounts, Thorn In The Side Ltd Finance TimesHe claims the figures are “not consistent” with his claims.

Accounts show the company’s cash position rose from almost £300,000 in May 2023 to £1.7 million a year later, then to £2 million in 2025.

Mr Farage previously said: I am a celebrity Thorn In The Side was paid a reported fee of £1.5 million.

Tax expert Nimesh Shah, of accountants Blick Rothenberg, told the FT the accounts were “not consistent” with Mr Farage’s claim that he bought the house with his money from the reality show.

In response, a Reform spokesman said anti-money laundering checks on the home purchase were carried out in March, before Mr Farage received the gift from Mr Harborne, adding: “As you can see from parliamentary records, Nigel has multiple sources of income.”

But his political opponents called for greater clarity, accusing Mr Farage of “dodging scrutiny” over the gift.

Labor leader Anna Turley said: “It’s clear he’s taken the public for fools and thinks he can sweep this scandal under the rug. He can’t.”

“Firstly, the reason why a Thailand-based crypto billionaire made a multi-million pound donation to himself has now changed and claims about how he paid for one of his homes are now being called into question.

“His story continues to change.

“One thing is clearer than ever: Farage is in this for himself and not for working people.”

Shadow Cabinet Office minister Alex Burghart said Mr Harborne’s gift “looks more suspicious than ever”.

He added: “This extraordinary amount of money is more than most people will see in their lifetime.

“The excuses he uses to get it are constantly changing.

“The public deserves full transparency about who is depositing money into Farage’s private accounts and the influence they are buying with that money.

“It should come clean.”

The revelation of the £5 million gift led parliamentary officials to launch an investigation into whether he broke Commons rules by deciding not to declare it after his election in 2024.

Mr Farage claimed the money was a “personal” gift he received before he decided to stand for Parliament again and was meant to be used for his private security for the rest of his life.

He told The Sun last week it was his “reward for 27 years of campaigning for Brexit”.

Newly elected MPs are required to declare any gifts they received in the 12 months before their election, unless they “could reasonably be considered by others to be related to membership of the Parliament or the MP’s political activities”.
