Nigel Farage erupts over Keir Starmer’s migrant returns deal – ‘you what?’ | Politics | News

Nigel Farage blasted the “one in, one out” return deal after a Channel migrant deported to France returned to the UK on a small boat. The Reform UK leader attacked Sir Keir Starmer after the deal turned into a farce today and predicted “many more” refugees will return to the UK.
Speaking on the Great Britain News programme, the Clacton MP said: “Wow, here we are, the Prime Minister told us that if you come to Britain illegally you will be detained and deported. So, what does that look like? So far 11,000 people have entered and 42 have come out. Oh sorry, not 42, 41 because one has come back again.”
Mr Farage also took aim at Border Security Commander Martin Hewitt, during questioning from MPs at the Home Affairs Committee last week, after he failed to say what would happen if a migrant returned to the UK after being sent back under the deal.
The Brexiteer played a clip of Mr Hewitt appearing before the committee and then said: “What are you doing?
“This is the Border Guard Commander who mumbles and stumbles and stumbles and clearly has no plan or any ideas whatsoever, he hasn’t even considered that anyone we get back to France could ever get back.
“Yes, it happened, one is back and I have no doubt there will be many more.”
It is understood that the returning man has been detained and the Home Office plans to deport him back to France.
He told the Guardian he was a victim of modern slavery at the hands of traffickers in the north of the country.
“If I felt France was safe for me, I would never return to England,” the man told the newspaper.
