NIGEL FARAGE shares his New Year address with Daily Mail readers: I’ve never known Britain feel gloomier. Here’s how Reform can give EVERY voter hope next year

As 2025 draws to a close, I don’t remember the country looking more bleak than this. People are getting poorer and poorer. Unemployment is increasing. Inflation is getting sticky and our debt is completely out of control with a Chancellor who has no idea what he is doing.

To make matters worse, people are increasingly afraid to wear watches or jewelry while walking down the street. And if you say something rude on Facebook, there may be a knock on your door.

This year I will be giving my annual New Year’s speech in Greenwich, south London. I believe it is an important place to consider what this country was, what it represents, and what it could be.

Greenwich was at the height of Britain’s naval power. This beautiful region on the banks of the River Thames has played a pivotal role in our rich history of maritime domination and global navigation.

And this dominance wasn’t just about winning the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. This wasn’t just about building the greatest Empire the world had ever seen. It was also about the Royal Navy, which had incurred huge costs over decades to remove slavery from the high seas, something of which the British people were justifiably proud.

Actually, we have a lot to be proud of, but under both last governments, our education system teaches our children to be ashamed of their past.

One of the first things a Reform government will do is to ensure that young people are taught our history accurately.

But beyond Greenwich’s magnificent buildings, such as Sir Christopher Wren’s Old Royal Naval College, you can see the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf. Not only are traditional stocks, shares, and bonds traded here, but a whole new world is developing: a world of artificial intelligence, financial innovation, and digital assets like cryptocurrencies.

I know many feel hopeless, but we are the ones who give hope. We are the ones who offer change

Alaa Abd El-Fattah is an Egyptian man who makes the most disgusting, hateful tweets about killing Jews and whites and fighting the police. However, the man was granted citizenship by the Conservative Party and readmitted to Britain by the Labor Party.

And neither the Conservative nor Labor parties seem to understand this world at all.

Let me promise you that we will do it. These are the technologies of growth as we all move forward in this century. But we cannot benefit from any of this unless we produce our own energy, most of it, and at cheap prices.

And because of the fanatical net zero policies pursued by both Labor and the Conservative Party, Britain will literally be left behind.

One in seven Britons now owns a digital asset such as Bitcoin. As a former commodities trader in the roaring ‘Big Bang’ days of the 1980s, I can tell you that cryptocurrencies are definitely here to stay.

Not only do they offer individuals ultimate freedom from major government and state interventions, they also represent a golden opportunity for our economy.

You may not feel it yet, but believe me, we are at the dawn of a crypto revolution and there is an exciting chance to make the UK the world’s leading center for cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation. I’ll go so far as to say that I believe this may actually be the city’s second ‘Big Bang’ moment.

But the government and authorities do not seem to care about this situation. The first instinct of status quo traders within Labor and the Conservative Party is to regulate cryptocurrencies to death. And that’s the point. We need change, real change, in this country. And if we keep voting for the same old parties, I promise you nothing will change.

Consider the Alaa Abd El-Fattah case of the last few days. Here’s an Egyptian guy making the most disgusting, hateful tweets about killing Jews and white people and fighting the police.

The government needs to strip this Egyptian hatemonger of his undeserved British citizenship and kick him out of the country – now, before it's too late

However, the man was granted citizenship by the Conservative Party and readmitted to Britain by the Labor Party. The government needs to strip this Egyptian hatemonger of his undeserved British citizenship and kick him out of the country before it’s too late.

Labor and the Conservative Party claim they were never aware of his toxic tweets. Leave it alone. In 2014, the European Union disqualified Al-Fattah from a major award due to vile social media posts. More than a decade later, we are expected to believe that these came as ‘unexpected’ news to the UK government.

Remember: we cannot remove British citizenship if it leaves a person stateless. So, if Cairo defeats Britain and revokes Al-Fattah’s Egyptian citizenship, we will stick with it. So who benefits from this?

I know many feel hopeless, but we are the ones who give hope. We are the ones offering change. And 2025 showed you what we can do with the district elections where we easily won more seats than other parties.

As we look forward to 2026, we face a huge choice: the whole of Scotland, the whole of Wales, all 32 London boroughs and thousands of council seats up and down the country.

So what do we see now? We are seeing a Labor government telling these councils that if they want to cancel elections for the second year in a row in some cases, they should feel free to do so.

And East and West Sussex, controlled by the Conservatives, have already said yes, thank you very much, we will cancel the election. This is exactly the authoritarian country we live in now; They are even starting to take away our right to vote.

They will cancel some of them, but most of these elections will still go on. These will be the most important elections between now and the next general election. I will make this prediction: If Reform wins the local elections this year, it will put us far ahead of other parties.

We have already been ahead by an average of 10 percent in more than 175 consecutive opinion polls. If we do this right on May 7 this year, we will win the general elections, which will be held in 2029 at the latest.

Then we will certainly have the opportunity to fundamentally change the entire system of government in Britain. This may be our last chance for this country to restore some proper values of family, community and country. These are the values on which I based this party when I first founded it.

But we can’t do this without you. And you can’t get the change you want without us. So let me ask you something. Please make doing something your New Year’s resolution. Support Reform. Join the Reformation.

Come out and spread the message that we are the party of hope. We are the party of change. And we truly are Britain’s last chance.
