No Confusion on Retirement Age, Says Power Forum

Vijayawada: G. Ramakrishna, state president of AP Electricity Employees Forum, rejected the allegations of manipulation regarding the retirement age of power utility employees as unfounded and stated that the government has given clear instructions in this regard.

Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada on Saturday, he criticized certain sections for spreading misinformation to tarnish the government’s image.

Ramakrishna said that the retirement age has been increased from 60 to 62 with effect from April 1, 2022. However, the exclusion of some companies and institutions from Schedules 9 and 10 has resulted in employees there retiring at age 60, creating discrimination.

He stated that no new recruitment has been made since 2017, but that recruitment will begin soon in accordance with the work schedule.

Ramakrishna also rejected claims that 80 percent of the 34,852 employees will retire between 2028 and 2030.

Pointing to a shortage of technical experts, he emphasized the need to retain experienced engineers, especially given the proliferation of renewable energy projects.
