“This will undoubtedly be the largest day of protest in American history,” Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, which helped organize the rallies, told USA Today. “Since the last time we did this, people have become much more aware of what’s going wrong with this administration.”

‘No to Kings’ protest in the USA

Four months ago, more than five million Americans gathered in small towns and major cities across the country to denounce what they described as President Donald Trump’s expansion of executive power. The coordinated “No to Kings” protests became one of the largest single-day demonstrations in US history and the largest since Trump returned to the White House for a second term.

On Saturday, millions of protesters are expected to join nationwide “No to Kings” demonstrations against the Trump administration’s overall agenda, which includes the deployment of military troops to U.S. cities. Regarding the upcoming demonstrations, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Newsweek: “What protest?”
The movement was organized by Indivisible and a broad coalition of labor unions and activist networks through what they call repeated “authoritarian power grabs” by the Trump Administration, including the recent deployment of federal forces in American cities and the attempted censorship of late-night TV hosts. Organizers called on Americans to “gather peacefully across the country to remind President Trump and his supporters: America Has No King.”

Additionally, these anti-Trump protests took place during a government shutdown that resulted in a large portion of the federal workforce being furloughed or fired. Organizers say the name “No to Kings” reflects a rejection of what they see as Trump’s attempts to consolidate power, challenge the courts and erode democratic norms.

Rallies, protests and marches will be held in big cities and small towns across the country. Protesters are urged to wear yellow.

‘No to Kings’ protests in the USA

The largest ‘No to Kings’ protests are planned outside the Capitol in Washington, DC, Boston, New York, Atlanta, Kansas City, San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans and Bozeman, Montana, USA Today reported. Most states have multiple, or even hundreds, planned events.

The first protest in June was organized by the 50501 Movement, an acronym for “50 states, 50 protests, one movement.” The purpose of the demonstrations was to celebrate “a day of defiance against Trump’s authoritarianism, pro-billionaire agenda, and militarization of America’s cities.”

“On October 18, millions of us rise again to show the world: America has no kings and power belongs to the people,” a statement on the group’s website said.

“President Trump has publicly said he wants a third term, and he is already acting like a monarch, seizing control of D.C., threatening other cities, and using federal forces against his own people,” the statement continues. “But the American people do not bow to kings. Together, in large numbers, we will take action peacefully once again to reject this corruption and abuse of power; it is in our DNA as a country.”

Thousands of people took to the streets, frustrated with Trump’s policies, from the gutting of the federal workforce to programs to sweeping immigration enforcement raids. Organizers say about 2,500 protests are planned in every U.S. state, Canada, Mexico and Europe, and that nationwide turnout could surpass the June demonstrations.
