Complaint against Ranveer Singh
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on Monday filed a complaint with the police against actor Ranveer Singh for allegedly insulting Goddess Chamunda Devi during the closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. According to the complaint, Singh had imitated on stage the divine form of a deity depicted in the Kannada film Kantara: Part 1 and referred to Chamundi Daiva, revered by the Kotitulu community, as a “female ghost”.
HJS representatives Pramod Tuyekar and Dilip Shetye submitted a memorandum to Panaji police station sub-inspector Shahin Shetye seeking registration of an offense under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. “Chamundi Daiva is considered a sacred family deity of the Tulu community and depicting or describing the deity in a derogatory manner amounts to disrespect. Such actions may cause public anger and disturb the peace,” HJS said. he said.
Seeking a thorough investigation, the team has also called on IFFI organizers to come up with a code of conduct to ensure that no religious deities are depicted in a derogatory manner at future events. :Ranveer Singh should issue a public apology and give assurances that he will refrain from making such statements or demonstrations in the future,” HJS said while appealing to his supporters to register their protests peacefully and lawfully.
This discussion took place just a few days before Ranveer’s upcoming album Dhurandhar. The Aditya Dhar directorial is scheduled to release in theaters on Friday, December 5. Dhurandhar also stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan in lead roles. The much-anticipated action thriller is bankrolled by Jyoti Deshpande and brothers Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under the banners of Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
