‘No offence detected’: Victoria police close investigation into Moira Deeming allegation of assault by Matthew Guy | Victoria

Police have completed their investigation into Victorian Liberal MP Moira Deeming’s allegation that her colleague Matthew Guy assaulted her, concluding “no crime has been detected”.
Deeming reported to police on June 16 that opposition public transport spokesman Guy had attacked him at a Macedonian community event in Sunshine on May 23.
On Thursday, sources close to Guy said Guy strongly denied the allegation and was considering filing a defamation lawsuit against Deeming.
Inside Comments about the era “These allegations were absurd and unfounded, just as the police found,” Guy said in a report published on Friday.
In a statement released late Thursday night, police said they had “completed an investigation following reports of an attack at an event venue on Sommerville Road in Sunshine West on May 23.”
“A woman was reportedly attacked by a man at an event,” police said.
“The woman did not require medical attention and the incident was reported to the police on June 16.
“As a result of the comprehensive investigation, no crime was detected.
“Investigators interviewed the woman who prepared the report.”
Both Deeming and Guy have been approached for comment.
Opposition leader Jess Wilson has refused to comment on the allegations while the investigation is ongoing.
Speaking to ABC Radio Mildura on Friday morning, Wilson thanked police for their “swift” investigation but waited until Guy spoke to the media before commenting further.
“I am pleased that the police investigation was concluded quickly and no crime was detected,” Wilson said.
“I gave Matthew the opportunity to respond this morning. I reached out to Moira to speak to her when she returned from overseas.”
Guy was expected to make a statement to the media on Friday morning and Wilson was expected to hold a press conference in Mildura in the afternoon.
With just five months to go until the election, the claim put pressure on Wilson, who, after being appointed leader in November, managed to stabilize the Liberal party, which had endured years of infighting between moderate and more conservative factions.
The party also faces a serious challenge from the rise of One Nation, which is jeopardizing its chances of forming a majority government.
Last week Wilson embarked on a five-week tour of each of the state’s 88 electorates to prepare the Coalition to govern.
