Nobel laureate Mohammadi still in critical condition

Nobel Peace Prize laureate detainee Narges Mohammadi remains in critical condition in a cardiac care unit in northwestern Iran, two days after she was brought to the hospital from prison, a foundation run by her family said.

The Narges Mohammadi Foundation said in a statement on Sunday that Mohammadi’s blood pressure continued to fluctuate dangerously and treatment was limited to efforts to stabilize his condition through oxygen therapy.

He was transferred to hospital from prison in the northwestern city of Zanjan on Friday after a “catastrophic deterioration” in his health, which included two total blackouts and a serious heart attack, the foundation said.

Mohammedi, who is in her 50s, won the Nobel Peace Prize while in prison for campaigning to promote women’s rights and abolish the death penalty in Iran. His family said he suffered a suspected heart attack in late March.

“Effective treatment of Narges Muhammadi’s condition is only possible by transferring her to the medical team in Tehran,” the foundation said in a statement on Sunday. he said.

Weeks before the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran, Mohammedi was sentenced to a new seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence, the foundation announced in February. The Nobel committee at the time called on Tehran to release him immediately.

He was arrested in December after condemning the death of lawyer Khosrow Alikordi; Prosecutor Hasan Hematifar told reporters that Alikordi made provocative statements at the commemoration ceremony.
