The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) announced a temporary increase in minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers, a day after workers staged a massive protest in Noida in Gautam Buddha Nagar district that turned violent. However, the State government rejected the allegations of increasing the minimum wage to ₹20,000 per month and stated that employers did not comply with this direction.

The state government announced that it has contacted all relevant stakeholders and opted to implement a temporary increase in the minimum wage. The procedure for determining the minimum wage will begin following the recommendations of the Wage Board, which the government plans to establish next month. As part of this temporary measure, the State government increased the minimum wage of unskilled workers statewide by up to 21%, effective April 1.
