NORAD F-16s intercept multiple general aviation aircraft over New Jersey

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) announced Sunday that its F-16s intercepted several aircraft violating temporary flight restrictions over New Jersey.

According to NORAD, NORAD F-16 fighter jets intercepted multiple general aviation aircraft violating temporary flight restriction airspace over Bedminster and East Rutherford in New Jersey.

More than 10 general aviation aircraft entered restricted airspace on Sunday; among them are three planes that NORAD says it must intercept.

During two of the interceptions, NORAD aircraft distributed flares that could be seen by the public to attract the pilots’ attention.

NORAD said the flares were “deployed with the utmost consideration for safety, burned quickly and completely, and did not pose a danger to people on the ground.”

NORAD said all general aviation aircraft were safely flown out of the area by NORAD aircraft.

“In the event that a NORAD aircraft intercepts a general aviation aircraft, the pilot must immediately arrive at frequency 121.5 or 243.0 and reverse course until receiving additional instructions on either of these frequencies,” NORAD said. he said.

NORAD urged pilots to check temporary flight restrictions before entering airspace.

“Pilots: Check your Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS) and FAA Temporary Flight Restrictions,” NORAD said.
